Finally, we come to the latest album in the list, although Ambiant Otaku is, like many of the others, the debut solo album of a legendary minimalist artist. Tetsu Inoue has been active since the early ’90s and has collaborated with other electronic artists such as Bill Laswell, Pete Namlock, Taylor Deupree, and others. Enjoy this last spacey, spectral, synthesized voyage!

When you’re in the trenches every day, it’s so easy to forget where you’re headed. When you see your friends or other musicians on social media growing their fan base like crazy, remember the big picture. Take a few minutes every day to zoom out and look at where you, specifically, are going.

Grants for orff instruments

Comparing yourself to other singers is a recipe for disaster. The trick to cementing your confidence is by finding your niche — working to discover that thing that makes your singing completely unique. Whether it is that you can belt like a demon, hold a note for two minutes, have a sexy glottal growl, a husky sultry tone, a perfectly seamless vibrato… Whatever it is, it’s your task to identify it, master it, and exploit it!

The tone that differentiates the Dorian mode from the standard minor (Aeolian) scale is its major 6th. To create a venerable Dorian sound, we’ll need to exploit the presence of that major 6th, and its contrast with the minor 3rd.

In this piece, harmony and melody are very limited. Harmony is non-existent (if considered as the use of at least three different pitches at the same time) and melody is reduced to one single note, with the only possible combinations resulting in unisons and octaves.

Soundfly is a new kind of music school for today’s musician. We create creative courses and daily articles for the curious musician. Meet the whole Soundfly Team here.

The groove may be simple, but its relationship to the song’s chord progression is not. To learn much more about chords and harmony and how they build the emotional structure of a song, you can check out our new course Unlocking the Emotional Power of Chords, but consider this a primer in case you’re ready.

What to do with old musical instruments

Even if you’re not a huge fan of Ali Farka Touré or other West African musicians, you’ve still probably seen one at a friend’s house or in an attic somewhere — or heard them on a Ben Harper song. Or maybe you even have one yourself that your weird aunt got you for Hannukah one year. Well, hopefully we can help you dust it off and give it a new life.

How do you record in a studio environment without the studio price tag or having to build a studio yourself? Closets, people! And don’t remove your clothes either (the ones hanging in your closet. You’re welcome to do this naked).

This autumn, we’re launching a brand new mentored online course teaching you how to get your home-recorded vocals sounding like the pros, check it out!
